1968 Lola Indy T150

History:

Serial # T150 –1.  This was the first Lola T150 of 3 cars built in 1968.  The car was driven in the 1968 Indy 500 by Al Unser Sr. as a 4 wheel drive for Retzloff Chemical Company. It was car #24. Al Unser Sr. qualified 6th in 1968 Indy 500 at 167.069 mph but went out of the race when the car lost a wheel. The chief mechanic was George Bignotti and the entrant was Vels Parnelli Jones.

In 1972 the car was acquired from the Vels Parnelli Jones team for George Eaton of the Eaton Department Stores family in Canada.  Eaton ran the car several times in late 1971, but before the 1972 Indy 500 the family pulled the funding because of concerns that he might be injured or killed while running the Indy 500. The car was maintained for Eaton by the Fejer Brothers in Canada.

The car was then sold to Jim Hurtibise, who entered it in the 1973 Indy 500 with a turbo Ford / Foyt V8 and ran 184.237. The car did not make the race, because Hurtibise ran out of funding. It is also believed that the car ran other races in 1968 and 1969 with Al Unser Sr. and the Vels Parnelli Jones Team.
